The West Coast Swing Dallas is an exciting couple dance, which dances mainly in social. The goal being to be able to dance with anyone on any music for a shared pleasure. The dance comes from the United States. This dance attracts more and more dancers in Europe, Texas and also in Dallas.
The WCS is one of the most elegant and popular couple dances. It dances mainly in line with fluid movements which gives this famous impression of flexibility between the two partners, whether on slow or fast dances. Added to true freedom of interpretation, sensations can only be excellent! The WCS allows to express itself freely on the music by creating a complicity and a shared pleasure in the couple dancer. Attentive listening between the two partners and music is paramount.
Almost all musical styles are “Westcoastables”: we have fun on the rhythms of RnB, Dance, Pop, Soul, Funk, Blues ….. To hear the different musical styles on which the West Coast Swing dances today, it is hard to believe that it is a dance from the Lindy Hop of the 1920s
The origins of West Coast Swing
As a dance of the Swing family descended from the Lindy Hop, the West Coast Swing originally danced on slow or fast blues. In 1959, Skippy Blair, tenderly named the “1st Lady of the West Coast Swing”, transformed the name “Western Swing” into that of “West Coast Swing”. The latter term was used, for the first time in 1962, during a major competition organized by Skippy Blair. The West Coast Swing is declared the official dance of California in 1988. Skippy Blair is the trainer of the famous American champions Jordan Frisbee & Tatiana Mollman, the couple that has revolutionized the West Coast Swing since 1999.
