What is West Coast Swing?
West Coast Swing is a dance style full of life, energetic and is extremely fun to do. It was considered as one of the most popular styles in the first half of lats century, and continues to be a huge dance craze today!
Swing dance appeared on stage in New York at the end of the 1920s, and early 1930s. Later, the famous clarinetist and bandleader Benny Goodman music would transform that music style and form a new trend. It escalated all over the West Coast of America. Along with this sweep of new music, Hollywood films began using this new style of music so that the entire country heard the lively tempos of ‘swinging jazz.’
Many people find West Coast Swing very demanding with movements, a lot of energy and sometimes tricky footwork. While it’s had many influences over the years, from Lindy Hop and Zouk, to name a few – West Coast Swing continues to be a favorite among most dancers.
